Registration has begun for the 2017 Future For Nature Awards

Burgers’ Zoo considers it to be its mission to protect and preserve (endangered) animals and to give as many people as possible the chance to experience the astonishing natural world. For this reason, Burgers’ Zoo supports environmental conservation projects across the world as well as the Future For Nature foundation. Burgers’ Zoo is the primary sponsor of this foundation. Each year, the foundation bestows the Future For Nature Award on three young, successful nature conservationists, who have achieved excellent results.

Wietse Van Der Werf, the Dutch founder of The Black Fish and Wildlife Air Service, is one of the three winners of the 2016 Future For Nature Award. The 33-year-old Van Der Werf is working toward creating the largest international network of citizen inspectors for fishing regions in the entire world. Using this network of volunteers and pilots in training, Van Der Werf opposes illegal fishing and aids in the protection of endangered sea creatures such as bluefin tuna and sea turtles. More supported environmental conservation projects can be seen at the Burgers’ Zoo YouTube Channel.
