Costa Rican sloth, Brazilian armadillo and Indian fishing cat win nature conservation prize

Out of over two hundred and fifty candidates from all over the world three inspiring young leaders in nature conservation were selected to be the winners of this year’s Future For Nature Award. On Friday, May 13th 2021, Tiasa Adhya (India), Gabriel Massocato (Brazil) and Rebecca Cliffe (UK / Costa Rica) will receive this prestigious nature conservation prize and 50,000 euros each during the Future For Nature Award event. This year Razan Al Mubarak (IUCN President) and Frans Timmermans (European Commission Vice President) will join the stage as guests of honour.
Talented Nature Conservationists from India, Brazil and the United Kingdom
This year’s Future For Nature Award winners are working hard to protect animal species and preserve our planet’s unique wildlife and ecosystems for the next generations.
Tiasa Adhya (35 years old) is an Indian conservationists committed to safeguarding the fishing cat and its wetland habitat. She brings people together and created a strong network to help secure the future of the animals and humans dependent on this ecosystem.
Gabriel Massocato (34 years old) is a Brazilian biologist who dedicated himself to protect a species that was unknowingly slipping away into oblivion. He is fighting fires and training others to create a safe natural environment and prevent the giant armadillo from going extinct.
Rebecca Cliffe (31 years old) is a British nature conservationist dedicated to protect sloths and their tropical forest habitat in Costa Rica. She moved across the world to work together with local communities to understand more about the elusive lives of these slow, charismatic creatures.

International Support for the Work of Future For Nature
On May 13th 2022 Razan Al Mubarak, the newly elected president of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Frans Timmermans, vice president of the European Commission, are the guests of honour and will grace the stage alongside the new winners of the Future For Nature Awards. In the past this internationally recognised nature conservation prize was presented by Sir David Attenborough, Dame Jane Goodall, Dr. Frans de Waal and Doutzen Kroes. During the tenth edition, His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander was the Guest of Honour.
Future For Nature Anniversary Year
2022 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Future For Nature Awards. To celebrate this milestone, all award laureates have been invited to come to the Netherlands for a week filled with workshops, seminars and networking opportunities, to develop themselves and their nature conservation projects. The week will finish at the Future For Nature Award event, where the newest winners will receive their prizes. The award event will take place in Royal Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and can be joined on invitation, but can also be watched digitally through live streams on YouTube and Facebook.
