Additions to the elephant enclosure and a new playground

We are working hard to renew and improve Burgers’ Zoo even further! Various construction projects are underway around the elephant enclosure. Among other things, the public area in the stable is being improved; after completion, visitors will enter and exit in a loop. Viewports are being added around the outdoor enclosure, and the surface area of the outdoor enclosure is being slightly enlarged. An adventure playground is being built between the elephant enclosure and the main entrance to the Bush, centred around a babbling brook that guarantees plenty of water play for all ages.
Temporary inconvenience
These construction activities may cause some inconvenience for you. A small part of the route around the Bush is temporarily inaccessible. We try to keep our visitors as up-to-date as possible by providing handouts with information for the day of your visit regarding the parts of the route that are temporarily closed.
Additions to the elephant enclosure
Burgers' Zoo is creating a new visitor experience in the visitor area of the elephant stable. The addition of a circular walkway means visitors will no longer have to pass each other when entering or exiting. Glass walls will separate visitors from the animals. A corridor will run between the indoor enclosure and the glass walls, where zookeepers can treat the animals’ feet, for example. The area of the outdoor enclosure will be slightly enlarged, and additional viewports will be added around the outdoor enclosure to offer visitors a closer look at the elephants.
An adventurous play stream
From Easter 2024, children will be introduced to a brand-new playground near the entrance to the Bush, where an adventurous babbling brook invites them to play with water! Jump along stepping stones, balance on wooden beams and, in warm weather, splash in the cool water with its fountains and currents. If you prefer dry feet, climb high over the water via exciting rope bridges and have fun sliding back down to earth. At Burgers' Zoo, your colourful journey of discovery only ends on the ride home!
