Giant dragon as crowning glory

A giant red dragon with a length of 5.3 metres, a wingspan of 5.5 metres and a height of 3.18 metres will be the showpiece of Burgers’ Zoo's Marvelous Mythical Creatures event starting on Saturday, 12 October. On Thursday, 10 October, at 08:30, staff from the Arnhem zoo's technical department hoisted the smoke-breathing reptile into place.
Wondrous creatures
Dozens of colourful mythical creatures have been crafted on commission for Burgers' Zoo. In addition to the dragon, visitors can discover figures such as centaurs, unicorns, mandrakes, werewolves, mermaids, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster and the Minotaur. The origins of some creatures can be found in Greek mythology, while others stem from European folklore or modern times.
Stories with countless connections
Humans have been fascinated by animals and nature for tens of thousands of years. In earlier times, however, people often had no idea how certain natural phenomena occur. Human explanations for extraordinary events and unknown animal and plant species likely contributed to the creation of stories about mythical creatures. The Marvelous Mythical Creatures event aims not only to entertain and amaze but also to excite visitors to delve deeper into these wondrous stories and their many references to nature, culture and history.

Burgers' Zoo is hosting the Marvelous Mythical Creatures event from Saturday, 12 October 2024, to Sunday, 9 March 2025. Where stories come to life.
The event is included in the regular admission fee and free for season ticket holders.
